The Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts - The School of Design is an educational institution under Ministry of Higher Education and Science. We educate designers and craft artists, and for more than 135 years, the school has been involved in developing Danish design and crafts with an international reach.
We combine a strong tradition for creativity, design and quality craftmanship with the postindustrial demand for flexible and research-based qualifications. In 2010 our five-year degree programme was accredited and recognized as a university-level educational institution, providing bachelor's and master's degrees.
Merger and new name
In July 2011 the school changed name from The Danish Design School to The Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts - The School of Design. The Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts, Schools of Architecture, Design and Conservation have been formed on the basis of a merger between The Danish Design School, The Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts, School of Architecture and School of Conservation. The new institution handles education and research within the subject fields of the three schools.
