The “gap” between research and design practice: Should we bridge it, fill it in or build on it? Open lecture with Liz Sanders. Monday April 20th.
With the growth of human-centered design practices comes increasing interest in understanding how to bridge the gap between research and design practice. The gap is generally perceived to be negative and a place to be avoided. But what if we see the gap as an opportunity space? This seminar will explore the materials, tools, plans and mindsets for building on the gap at a variety of levels of scale and abstraction.
Liz Sanders is the President of MakeTools, a design research company with a focus on exploring generative tools for collective creativity. Liz is a pioneer in the use of participatory research methods in design. Her current focus is on bringing human-centered tools, methods and mindset to the practice of planning, design and architecture at NBBJ.
