Tommy Hilfiger selects a winner at The Danish Deisgn School

Tommy Hilfiger visits The Danish Design School to review entries to a design competition, conducted by Hilfiger in collaboration with The Danish Deisgn School.

During an exclusive two-day visit Mr. Tommy Hilfiger met nine design students taking part in the competition for a walkthrough of their creative design. Together with a Danish jury Tommy Hilfiger announced the winner from among nine entrants.

For the competition, nine talented students from the Danish Design School created their individual unique interpretation of iconic American fashion that pays homage to Scandinavian design. Their work was inspired by Tommy Hilfiger's Icon collection, which consists of the designer's 25 all-time favorite classic American pieces. These items pay tribute to some of the designer's style icons, such as Steve mcQueen, Grace Kelly, James Dead and Deborah Harry.

And the winner is...

The winner of the competition was student Trine Maja Kristoffersen. Trine and the rest of the students was celebrated for their new icons - showing how American design can be interpreted with a Scandinavian twist.

“I wanna take it home with me. But it was difficult to chose - there is a lot of talent” - Tommy Hilfiger

Runner Up: Juan Eduardo Bastias - redesigning the classic Peacoat.

Welcome Mr. Hilfiger

Head of Department, Ph.D. Julie Sommerlund: "It is a great privilege and honour to welcome mr. Hilfiger – who is himself an icon of American – and international – fashion. Mr. Hilfiger has been a prominent figure in fashion since he started his brand 25 years ago. It is in celebration of these 25 years that we have conducted the competition that we have gathered to judge.

Mr. Hilfiger has personified classic American cool ever since he started out selling jeans out of the back of his car in high school. The preppy style has become synonymous with the Hilfiger brand, and these days there are about 1000 Hilfiger stores thoughout the world.

Icons – Celebrating the Scandinavian touch and the American style Icons
Today American fashion Icons will meet Danish Design, represented by nine fashion students from The Danish Design School. The school has trained many of the designers behind the immortal Danish Modern furniture. Today we make the new ”icons to be”: Louise Campbell continues the furniture heritage - and in fashion designers such as Baum & Pfergarten are taking that heritage into fashion.

Thus, a meeting between mr. Hilfiger´s classic cool and modern take on American icons, and the Danish tradition of iconic design – which share the focus on aesthetics combined with functionality - is almost meant to happen".
