Evaluation criteria
Submitted presentation items will be evaluated with respect to:
- relevance to the conference purpose (including potential for discussion and, if relevant, cooperation across national or discipline borders);
- scholarly quality; and
- clarity.
Selection Criteria
Among the presentation items that have been deemed satisfactory according to the evaluation criteria, the organizers will select a subset for presentation at the conference, so as to ensure:
- a suitable number of sessions for the time slots available, and
- a suitable mix of theoretical approaches representing both philosophy and design research.
Publication policy
Submitting any presentation item to CEPHAD for evaluation and possible presentation at the CEPHAD 2010 Conference, is on the understanding and mutual agreement that:
- As an author of the presentation item, you rightfully and legally authorize CEPHAD to publish it on the conditions listed below. (If the item was jointly authored, please ensure your co-authors' consent prior to submission; if the material has been published already or has been submitted for publication elsewhere, please make sure you have the necessary permissions to re-publish.)
- If the presentation item is selected for presentation at the conference, it will be published on the conference website (and possibly in a hard-copy version of the conference programme for distribution among delegates), once you have paid the conference fee.
- If the presentation item is selected for presentation at the conference, the Editorial Board of Copenhagen Working Papers on Design is entitled, but not obliged, to select it for further dissemination through the journal, possibly depending on minor revisions as agreed with you.
- No further publication of the presentation item will be undertaken or allowed by CEPHAD without your prior consent.
The rationale for pre-conference publication as described is fourfold:
- All conference delegates should to be able to access the presentation items prior to, or during the conference, for preparing active participation in discussions.
- By means of the presentation items, the conference will leave a permanent trace of documentation for the benefit of funding bodies and the general public (without forcing the organizers into the considerable editorial work of producing a conventional volume or a web document of proceedings).
- Contributors to the conference should be able to prove, by reference to their presentation items, their status as originators of whatever tentative ideas they bring to the conference for discussion and possible further development.
- Anyone else using such tentative ideas for their own research should be able to refer to the presentation items, to acknowledge the originators of the ideas. (Just as one would normally refer to regular academic literature.)
In view of the above publication policy, you are advised to keep your presentation item precise and to the point, yet suitably informal and sketchy, so as not to block formal publication of more elaborate versions in the future, e.g. in journals that require manuscripts to be ‘original’.
