READING IN A FOREIGN LANGUAGE:
Experience is indispensable, but bookmarking and using a handful of good online dictionaries may save a lot of time getting it.

• The KADK Library has a comprehensive collection.

Some English-English dictionaries (with explanations of meaning and examples of use) that I have found useful are:

• Oxford Advanced Learners' Dictionary.
• Cambridge Dictionaries Online.
• Merriam-Webster Online.
• WordNet.
