About my research forskning
Luxury fashion and
the global control cities
Research Project
My current research project is about the influential ’Global Control Fashion Cities’, I assert they are central to the distribution and the function of luxury fashion. The term ’luxury fashion’ refers to global widespread fashion that competes within the upper price ranges of the fashion markets and simultaneously acts as aesthetic focus points for much of the general global fashion. The overall objective of the research project is to analyze the luxury fashion system through the influence of the Global Control Fashion Cities.
The study is confined to a specific focus on women's fashion and two distinct phenomena: flagship stores and logo handbags.
I define a Global Control Fashion City as a hub for global flows of fashion information, decisions, capital and labor; it has a high concentration of the most important activities in terms of value and growth (design, sales, media, marketing, branding, finance, consumption, etc). These cities have individual charecteristics but the are closely interlinked in transnational networks.
The five key Global Control Fashion Cities today are Paris, Tokyo, Milan, New York, and London, but cities like Los Angeles, Hong Kong, Moscow, Seoul and Shanghai are increasingly achieving a strong impact on the global dominance of the luxury fashion system and as such they should equally be taken into consideration.
