OFF THE WALL is a photography book that reflects the vision of a complete outsider in a new creative territory.
The book funtions like a visual city guide for Berlin [ covering 4 districts of the city] from a non-touristic approach and defines the city through its main graphical components [ Point, Line, Color, Raw,Character & Space], underlining the importance of one’s first visual contact with the city.

What would Berlin look like when extracted from its material culture?
The book documents the city and provides an overall image of Berlin through a designer’s visual experience.
The layout of the book is inspired by the offical Berlin wall where the cover represents the west side [ White mass and stripes symbol of cleaness and evolution] and the back cover represents the East side Gallery [ Artworks, symbol of freedom and resistance].The photographs are divided through categories and defined by the adress where the snapshots were taken.

OFF THE WALL is published by a fictional micropublisher : DAS SCHARF Microbooks
The name is based on a play with words in German as SCHAF means Sheep and SCHARF means “the hottie”.
Das Scharf’s corporate identity revolves around the element of surprise.  In his conception, the sheep is the same but reacts differently relating to his tasks and the situation he is put in: In this case, he is holding pantone colors CMYK and alters to become a micro element throughout the stationery.

PHOTOGRAPHIC DISTRICT MAP I DISTRICT ROUTE MAP
DAS SCHARF  introduces new design solutions to inform and inspire the design industry and underlines the importance of a creative relation between the publisher and the author.
Berlin is conceived  as a graphical laboratory and translated through an interactive map where the photographs are located and where their addresses can be physically found on google map. The map completes the book adding a functional approach to the photographs, emphasizing the correlation between the city and the viewer’s experience.
