Project
FOLD – UNFOLD – REFOLDThe French philosopher Gilles Deleuze describes in his book ”The Fold” the human mind as being in an eternal process of folding, unfolding and refolding. He uses the fold as a picture of difference within oneself.
It is these three states of mind Fold, Unfold and Refold that I have based my project upon. I thought it was very interesting to try to affect peoples state of mind by using furniture.
The first piece ”Fold” is made of plastic. The shape is like a piece of paper all crumbled up. The position one takes in the stool is also kind of folded together into oneself.
The second piece “Unfold” is made of birchplywood. It resembles a piece of paper falling down a wall continuing on the floor. Your body is open and unfolded when you lie in it.
The third piece “Refold” is an upholstered carpet, that can be folded in various ways. The folds of experience creates new folds.
