Fashion Design

Fashion design

In Fashion Design we deal with fashion and clothing in a broad sense.  From fashion as a cultural phenomenon to clothing as a means of expressing identity and group membership. From the overall concept to the concrete development of form. You learn to handle the many facets and mechanisms of this field and establish a clear professional, theoretical and artistic foundation as well as thorough knowledge of the processes, methods and expressions associated with fashion design.

We enable you to work independently, creatively and experimentally. Fashion design consists of the five dimensions of aesthetics, culture and history, process, form and material, and visualization. The aesthetic aspect is a fundamental element in the essential expression of the fashion medium. Culture and history aims to provide a larger perspective and thus strengthen analysis and exploration/research. Process ranges from artistic and intuitive aspects of the design process, composition and ideation over strategic design and concept development to production methods and ethical considerations. Form, material and visualization constitute the core of fashion design and its true mode of expression.

ABOUT THE PROGRAMME

After the first year of the advanced programme, you have considerable freedom to select and combine modules to achieve a high degree of specialization or design your own unique professional profile. Most fashion students engage in work placement and exchange programmes and take part in outreach activities in the form of competitions, exhibitions and fashion shows.

You learn to identify needs, act as a problem-solver and engage in dialogue with fashion experts as well as interdisciplinary teams involving other areas. You learn to develop fashion design in practice. Fashion design is about developing method and form tools in order to help the ongoing development of the discipline.

Through your studies you learn to act independently on a high artistic, technical and professional level and become able to contribute aesthetic and responsible solutions in a highly diverse world.
