Research Projects
From 1st of February 2004 I have started a three -year research project - Ceramic Climate Screens - in cooperation with Peter Mackeprang at Danmarks Designskole. The area of the project is within chosen area of research at Danmarks Designskole, Material and Interaction.

Project title: "Ceramic Climate Screens"
Tile has a prominent place in the Danish building tradition. However, for the last 50-years there have been a dramatic evolution in the use of tile in construction.
Due to the demand for short construction periods and the industrialized building processes, almost all cavity wall constructions today are "sandwich" constructions, with a load-carrying element in concrete. As a result of this industrialized building process, masonry has undergone a radical change in construction and material appearance within a relatively short period of time. This change is expected to accelerate in years to come as a consequence of the heightened focus on environmental impact - an impact on the building by way of noise, as well as the impact of the building by way of heating loss.

Society's investment in reducing environmental impact, plus higher values for insulation ability in present and future buildings, will be of a scale that creates a major growth potential for Danish industry. The aim of this research project in ceramic climate screens is to study tile's aesthetic and technical potentials. Tile possesses great technical and aesthetic qualities. Tile can be processed in industrial mass production, while its material appearance supports the image we have of our cities and buildings. The project seeks to contribute to this potential by focusing on the aesthetic and technical possibilities of ceramic building components in industrially manufactured noise and climate screens.
